Hamlet – Act 1, Scene III

“This above all, to thine own-self be true”

Those nine words, spoken by Lord Polonious to Laertes are the very essence of everything we teach and share in the www.jobologist.com career development/job search training program:

“How the Truth Will Set You and Your Career Free”.

After all, if one doesn’t begin with the TRUTH…….if one doesn’t start their quest toward happiness, and overall success in life aware of and then acting on their own TRUTHS, and their own priorities their lives and careers will careen out of order, many times never to return to their core beliefs.

If one does not make every action completely aligned with what matters most then they won’t!

(Think about that for just a moment; if ones actions are not aligned with their priorities then their life is being lived unaligned with their priorities/TRUTHS; THIS IS ALL BAD!!)

“Most people spend their whole lives trying to climb the ladder of success only to find it’s up against the wrong wall” – Stephen Covey, 7 Habit of Highly Effective People

I know this quote to be TRUE by virtue of having been involved in the lives of literally thousands of people during my 40 years in the Executive Search and Executive Development business.

Humbly and in the words of Bruce Springsteen (Thunder Road), “I’m no hero, that’s understood”.

That said, my experiences in this particular world are vast and the sole purpose of this blog and overall website is to share with as many people as possible some things that I’ve not seen very often with respect to career success and job search sanity.

My thought was to take the words of authors, poets, sages etc to make clear some of these points shared in this blog.

Having had the opportunity to be involved with the careers and the lives of thousands of folks my perspectives about the things broached here are all empirically based…..

  • I’ve read tens of thousands of resumes
  • I’ve placed hundred and hundreds of people in jobs all over the world and in many, many states in the union
  • I’ve worked with, listened to, consoled and suggested action to countless people

(Heck, feel free to read what some have been kind enough to take the time to say on LinkedIn

The perspectives contained here are not opinion as much as they are all based on observations coming out of those experiences.

Back to the TRUTH:

Be honest, if you’re at a site like this, if you came here through a web search or something related to jobs or careers, then at some level you’re struggling with what is happening in either your life, your career, your job search or all of the above.

This is completely understandable! You are not alone either, but, will be in the majority of people if you opt to consider you’re situation “bad luck” or “not your fault” and then not take action to improve your circumstance!

Hopefully my using the words, phrases and concepts of folks from “Shakespeare to Springsteen” will assist in demonstrating what I’ve learned.

Hopefully as well you’ll find this a bit entertaining, more than a bit educational, ultimately driving you act on what really matters in your life.

You see, action is what makes it all happen; do not stand “Stonelike at Midnight, suspended in your masquerade” (Bruce Springsteen – “Growin’ Up”, the subject of my next post)

So, once again, “I’m no hero….that’s understood” but I do know that happiness begins when trusting yourself and the words of Polonious

“This above all, to thine own self be true”

Let’s get to work!!
